I have just discovered that the Kindle edition of The Future of the People of God is now available from Amazon in the US, UK, France and Germany. Thank you, Wipf and Stock. Thank you very much. The one solitary review on amazon.com says: “This book is an examination of Romans through the lens of eschatology. It is probably the clearest explanation of Romans that I’ve read.” And adds: “Reformed types be warned: Perriman will invalidate your interpretation of key passages in Romans.” Absolutely. You can read more about the book here. So why not download a copy and let me know what you think—or even write a short review for Amazon?
I just ordered the physical book last night, which is just fine because I don't have a kindle anyway.
Hopefully I'll have time to read to read it carefully and write a review of some sort.
This is my favorite Perriman book. I understand sometimes why some theology books have to be long. But, most of them should try to be as elegant and concise as this one. The basic point is that Romans is a letter explaining how the promise made to Israel plays out as salvation promised in the near future to the readers of the letter. This book powerfully points out how a failure to bring historical narrative to the table will result in tragic interpretations.
@Doug in CO:
Wow, that was quick! Thanks, Doug. Nice and succinct.
Sounds good. Just ordered a hard copy. 179 pages sounds short and sweet...just the way I like most books. Makes for a enjoyable evening.
