Romans 16

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, being [also] a deacon/minister of the church in Cenchreae, 2 that you might receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints and stand by her in whatever matter she needs of you; for also/indeed she was a helper/patron of many and of myself.

3 Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow-workers in Christ Jesus, 4 such as who for the sake of my soul put at risk their own neck, for whom not only I but also all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks, 5 and the church in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who is first-fruits of Asia for Christ. 6 Greet Mary, who laboured greatly for you. 7 Greet Andronicus and Iunia, my kinsmen and my fellow-prisoners, such as are outstanding among the apostles, they also were before me in Christ. 8 Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord. 9 Greet Urbanus, our fellow-worker in Christ, and my beloved Stachys. 10 Greet Apelles, approved in Christ; greet those from those of Aristoboulos. 11 Greet Herodion, my kinsman. Greet those being in the Lord from those of Narcissus. 12 Greet Tryphaena and Tryphosa, workers in the Lord. Greet the beloved Persis, who laboured greatly in the Lord. 13 Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord and his mother and mine. 14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers with them. 15 Greet Philologos and Iulia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas and all the saints with them. 16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

17 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch closely those making divisions and stumbling-blocks beside the teaching which you learned, and keep away from them. 18 For such do not serve our Lord Christ but their own stomach, and through smooth talk and blessing deceive the hearts of the innocent. 19 For your obedience reached all; I rejoice over you then, but I wish you to be wise with regard to what is good, innocent with regard to what is bad. 20 The God of peace will crush Satan under your feet soon.[fn]I take it that for Paul, as for the author of Revelation, “Satan” is the malevolent power behind aggressive Greek-Roman opposition to the God of Israel, his Christ, and the churches. The expectation is that this power will be overthrown in a foreseeable historical future.[/fn] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

21 Timothy, my fellow-worker, greets you, and Luke and Jason and Sosipater, my kinsmen. 22 I Tertius greet you, who wrote the letter in the Lord. 23 Gaius, my host and of the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer, and the brother Quartus greet you.

25 To the one being able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to revelation of a mystery[fn]The “mystery” in this case is the inclusion of the nations in the eschatological programme (cf. Eph. 3:1-10).[/fn] having been silent for times of the ages, 26 but now disclosed, through prophetic writings according to a command of the God of the ages for obedience of faith to all the nations having been made known, 27 to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom the glory for the ages, amen.
