Mark 8

The feeding of the four thousand

In those days, there again being a great crowd and not having anything they might eat, having called the disciples, he says to them, 2 “I have compassion on the crowd, because already three days they remain with me and they do not having anything they might eat. 3 And if I send them away hungry to their house, they will collapse on the road, and some of them have come from far away.” 4 And his disciples answered him that “How will someone be able to feed them with bread in the wilderness?” 5 And he was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” 6 And he commands the crowd to sit down on the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, he broke and was giving to his disciples in order that they might set before, and they set before the crowd. 7 And they had a few small fish, and having blessed them he said to set these also before (the crowd). 8 And they ate and were fed, and they took up surpluses of broken pieces, seven baskets. 9 There were as four thousand people, and he sent them away. 10 And immediately having got into the boat with his disciples he came to the parts of Dalmanutha.

11 And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, testing him. 12 And having groaned deeply in his spirit he says, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you if a sign will be given to this generation.” 13 And having left them, again having embarked, he went away across.

14 And they forgot to bring loaves and they did not have but one loaf with them in the boat. 15 And he was commanding them, saying, “Watch, see from the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” 16 And they were discussing among themselves that they do not have loaves. 17 And having known he says to them, “Why are you discussing that you do not have loaves? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Do you have your heart hardened? 18 Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? They say to him, “Twelve.” 20 When the seven for the four thousand, the fullnesses of how many baskets of broken pieces did you take up? They say [to him], “Seven.” 21 And he was saying to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

Jesus spits and heals a blind man

22 And they come to Bethsaida, and they bring to him a blind man and they urge him that he might touch him. 23 And having taken the hand of the blind man he led him out of the village, and having spat on his eyes, having laid hands on him, he was asking him, “if you see anything?” 24 And having looked up he was saying, “I behold the people, but I see (them) as trees walking around. 25 Then again he laid hands on his eyes, and he saw-clearly and he was restored and he clearly perceived all things. 26 And he sent him to his home, saying, “Do not go into the village.”

Who do people say that the Son of Man is?

27 And Jesus came out and his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, “Whom do the people say me to be?” 28 They said to him, saying [that] “John the Baptist, and others Elijah, and others that one of the prophets.” 29 And he was asking them, “Whom do you say me to be?” Having answered Peter says to him, “You are the messiah.” 30 And he rebuked them that they may not say anything concerning him.

The Son of Man must suffer many things

31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and after three days to rise up; 32 and he was speaking the word with boldness. And having taken him aside Peter began to rebuke him, 33 who turning back and seeing his disciples rebuked Peter and says, “Go away behind me, Satan, because you do not think the things of God but the things of people.”

34 And having called the crowd with his disciples he said to them, “If anyone wishes to follow after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and let him follow me. 35 For whoever may wish to save his soul will lose it; whoever loses his soul because of me and the gospel will save it. 36 For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37 For what might a person give as an exchange for his soul? 38 For whoever might be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, also the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, whenever he comes in the glory of his Father and with the holy angels.
