Daniel Kirk has been running an excellent series of posts on Mark 13—excellent in the sense that I agree with pretty much everything he says. For convenience I have listed his posts here, starting with the most recent:
- Narrative & Theological Ramifications of Mark 13 as AD 70
- Objections to Mark 13 as AD70: Son of Man
- Objections to Mark 13 as AD 70: Cosmic Imagery
- Mark 13 & the Fall of Jerusalem
I find this encouraging. The sooner this sort of perspective becomes consolidated, the sooner we can get on with exploring the evangelical implications of such a hermeneutical shift.
My challenge to him now would be: Can you do something similar with Paul? Or does Paul somehow escape the narrative confines of history? Here would be a place to start: Resurrection, rapture and relevance.
Very enjoyable series of posts. But I found this comment and the response to be very significant:

Sorry I haven’t been following this lately so I don’t know if someone else asked this in an earlier post: do you feel that what goes for Mark 13 (in terms of time frame under consideration) also goes for Matt 24? How about Matt 25?

I’m not sure, Paul. Matthew seems to move toward a bit more “finality”, final judgment, etc
