When we say church

I saw a link to this short, simple and sweet video from The Well in Brussels on Rob Fairbanks' blog. I know all those beautiful people. Wes and I were there a few weeks back talking about shalom. They are a wonderfully honest and adventurous and compassionate community.

They finish with the saying of Jesus about the gates of death not overcoming the church that is built on the rock. Jesus meant that this new community he had brought into existence and which shared his life would not be overcome by persecution and the appalling threat and reality of death.

But the witness to the renewal of life, to new creation, to shalom, blessing, goodness, that is at the heart of the life of a community such as The Well, is inevitably also a witness to the final victory of God over the supreme enemy of his creation. Death.
